Null Stern Hotel is a unique and innovative concept in the hospitality industry that challenges traditional notions of luxury and comfort.

Null Stern Hotel was originally found and located in Switzerland.

The term “Null Stern” translates to “Zero Star” in German, reflecting the minimalistic approach of the concept.

The key idea is to strip away unnecessary elements. Guests experience a basic, comfortable stay, fostering a deeper connection with nature and reevaluating essential elements for fulfillment.

Additionally, concerns about weather-related inconveniences and the impact on privacy have been raised.

However, proponents of Null Stern appreciate the innovative spirit and the courage to challenge the status quo.

The concept has gained popularity and expanded to various locations globally, offering a distinctive and unconventional lodging experience.

A Room Without Walls in Breathtaking Natural Settings

The concept behind Null Stern is simple yet profound – a hotel room without walls, located in breathtaking natural settings.

The absence of walls brings guests closer to nature, fostering a sense of intimacy with the landscape.

While Null Stern prides itself on its minimalist approach, it doesn’t compromise on the essentials of comfort.

Each “room” comes with a comfortable bed adorned with quality linens, ensuring a good night’s sleep.

The focus on basic, high-quality amenities encourages guests to appreciate the simplicity of their surroundings.

Hospitality Redefined

Null Stern challenges the traditional model of hospitality by eliminating the traditional trappings of a hotel.

There are no grand lobbies, concierge services, or elaborate dining options.

Instead, the emphasis is on the purity of the experience and the connection between the guest and the environment.

The Evolution of the Null Stern Concept

However, their new hotel concept, Zero Real Estate, was the latest artistic hospitality project of Null Stern during the summer of 2022.

In addition, the new Null Stern Hotel offers new services. The suites come with butler service offering drinks and breakfast.

They have used the majestic Swiss Alps in Saillon in Valais as the backdrop for yet another zero-star hotel, where there were no walls or roof around the “room.”

Thus, Null Stern Hotel was the original project in natural landscapes like the Swiss Alps; Zero Real Estate represents a continuation and adaptation of the concept in urban environments.

The Founding and Evolution of Null Stern Hotel

The Null Stern Hotel was founded in 2009 by Swiss conceptual artists Frank and Patrik Riklin, in collaboration with hospitality professional Daniel Charbonnier.

Moreover, the hotel is a converted former nuclear bunker, and a prototype was inaugurated in Teufen, Appenzellerland, Switzerland.

The concept emerged as a result of the artists’ desire to challenge traditional notions of hospitality and luxury.

They sought to create an experience that goes against the conventional standards of hotels.

The original project ran for one year, from 2009 to 2010, before being turned into a museum. In 2022, it was revived as an open space concept, called Zero Real Estate.

Meanwhile, the first open-air experience hotel, located in the Safien Valley in Switzerland, offers an where guests sleep under the stars, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Swiss Alps.
