Esom started her career as a model by joining the TV show Check It Girl – Season 1 in 2008. It was not until two years later that she started her acting career with the movie Second Half.

Her breakthrough as an actress came when she was featured as the lead character in the movie Scarlet Innocence (2014) where her performance was well-acknowledged.

She managed to win the Best New Actress award at the Director’s Cut Awards. She then scored more awards and nominations for her performance in the movie Scarlet Innocence (2014).

In 2017, she showed up in the movie Warriors of the Dawn, in which she was assigned for the Best Supporting Actress award at the Baeksang Arts Awards.

That very year, she also got to join the cast of the movie Microhabitat, which won her various accolades including one from the Busan Film Critics Awards.

Her stage name is derived from the combination of her family name Lee, which is pronounced as ‘E’ in Korean and ‘som’ from the word ‘som-moongchi’ which means cotton ball.
