Historical Background
The origins of the Pampulha Modern Ensemble date back to the 1940s.
During this time, Juscelino Kubitschek, then mayor of Belo Horizonte and later President of Brazil, envisioned transforming the Pampulha region into a modern urban complex.
To realize this visionary plan, Kubitschek enlisted the expertise of Oscar Niemeyer.
Collaborating with landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx and artist Candido Portinari, they worked together to create an integrated ensemble of buildings.
