Quotes

“I love people who are really messy […] Because I’ve felt a lot of pressure as a human being to be good 100% all the time. There’s something magnetic about people who aren’t.”

“I very much am anxious, and whenever I’m in a social setting, it’s that cliche of “fake it till you make it.” I have to pretend that I’m completely confident. That was something that I was excited about portraying. People need to know that we’re not all social butterflies, and it’s a completely legitimate thing to be dealing with.”

“People fascinate me, but my lens wasn’t set on that. I’m drawn to being surprised by human beings because we aren’t linear. […] Even these people who we think have the most glamorous lives ever are deeply flawed.”

“I’ll always get a fresh notebook and I’ll fill it with drawings, reflections, anything. But it always starts with a timeline of everything that’s happened to this person from the time they’re born through to the time that we meet them.”

“I tend to finish a job and then I’m like, ‘I want to play the complete opposite.’ It spins off in that direction, and from there I’ll find my way to something I just need to be part of. What I love about the job is always the element of surprise and being like, ‘I have no idea what I’m going to do, but I know it’s going to be very different.'”

“The way I like to work is to become completely submerged, and that takes its toll. […] I feel like that was a lesson for me: You have to choose wisely what you can give to a part, then on the flip side of that, what you can give to yourself in order to recover.”

“The longer that I am alive on this planet, the more I realise that people are not simple. There is no right or wrong, black or white. Everything is grey. Human beings are messy, and there’s beauty in that.”

“I just love people. I love trying to figure out why they do what they do.”

“I’ve experienced a lot of anxiety around being a good person. It’s okay to have qualities about yourself that you don’t like… There’s something about not judging yourself and just going, ‘okay, this is where I’m at’. I don’t think I’m a bad person.”

“Smiling at strangers on the street will make you feel great.”

“I think now more than ever we need to support small businesses and show huge love and appreciation for the courageous people who have put time and effort into creating them.”

“Growing up in West Sussex, mine and my family’s local high street was the heart of our community. I have many fond memories of small, independent businesses who were so charming and welcoming, and supporting these businesses always contributed so much to the wellness of our community.”

“Since living in Brighton, we’re so lucky to have everything you could imagine on our doorstep – and there’s a real sense of community amongst all the small, independent businesses that populate my local area. Working together to support these shops in whichever way we can, is a fantastic way to give back to our communities and preserve the unique neighbourhood vibe that is so important.”

Erin Doherty has always had a knack for acting and performing on stage. It all can be seen from a good acting resume she has built since she was a teenager.
