Career

The rising movie star, Havana Rose Liu, initially didn’t find acting as her first step to explore the world of art.

Starting her exploration as a multimedia artist, later, she then switched her interest into dance.

After that, Havana then joined IMG Models as her model agency to try working as a model, even though at first she was skeptical about whether she would be good at modeling or not.

But after trying modeling, she fell in love with the modeling industry.

She began to learn a lot from various modeling jobs she received, and in 2018, she successfully became a model for Gucci.

During that year, Havana also appeared as an actress for the first time in the 2018 short movie, Girls Will Be, and played a character as Rome.

Starting from that, she fell in love with acting and tried more acting projects in 2021, such as the movie Mayday and a Netflix series, The Chair.

And in 2022, Havana came back for more movies, The Sky Is Everywhere and No Exit.

Quotes

“I never wanted to be an actor; I never even considered it as an option for myself. I grew up around a lot of actors. My parents had gone to film school, but I ended up going on a very different path. It felt like [acting] was near, yet quite out of reach, in part because there were not many people who looked like me in the craft.”

“I don’t necessarily like to put flags in the sand of where I want to move, because I feel like the more I’m in flow, the more the right things find me. I’m looking forward to seeing what else this beautiful, weird experience of this multidisciplinary artistic lifestyle brings.”

“I think my style has been ever-evolving. When I am feeling brave, it comes out. Clothes are a huge extension of my feeling of my artistry and my personal expression, and also my mood.”

“If I had to describe my style more succinctly, I’d say that it is odd-chic, artful, hopefully I can dance in it, and functional—that’s really important.”

“I really love vintage and secondhand, thrift is the major percentage of my wardrobe.”

“That’s my favorite thing about thrifting—you’re not necessarily living within a single brand identity, which means you’re allowed to change, too. It will grow to meet your needs.”

“I’ve never been able to be labelled, I’m mixed-race, multi-cultural and queer, but there is an interesting dynamic when it came out and people started calling me and actor, it was new.”

“I was trying to examine myself and how I had gotten to that point. Because I had never dreamed of getting to where I am now with it, I didn’t even think it was possible. But then I have realised over time that all of the different artforms I spent time studying and practising, have directly folded into the dough that is acting.”

“I think music, my voice, has so much presence in acting and figuring out how to use that as a tool. I get to utilise all my skills and on top of all of that, it allows me to live so many lives. That is my favourite part, it allows me to evolve, and the way that we contextualise work, especially in America, is such a stagnant experience but acting I am always allowed to change.”

“I think I’ve had more experiences thinking that something wasn’t for me and then ended up being perfect for who I am. I don’t think it’s healthy to dream up perfect roles, because so often life surprises me.”

“I’ve lived in many other places, but I think my favourite thing about New York is that you just end up experiencing so many different people and things In a day.”

“There is so much beauty in being able to immerse yourself in other lives at any given moment.”

“My body is my home. I have learned to embrace it as I take care of it. that is my ground when life gets too much. There is something really impactful about realising that, this vessel that I occupy for this amount of time gets to be my ground, my home base.”

“I’ve had to learnt through a lot of trial and error, I grew up in a time where lifestyle was really valued highly, and brain intelligence was considered powerful. That is true, but I’ve learnt to balance that with body knowledge, body practice, mental health for me, is 50% physical and 50% mental work.”

“I think for me, success is experiential. It is when the three pillars of life can hold up the roof of living, those are; passion, purpose, and practice.”

“I am just so open. That has been a real power in some way for me in life, that being open and following my values and deep interpersonal connection, following those things has been a better line to find the projects meant for me.”

“I hope to be able to be a good person and do good things with the art I make and live a creative life that is not only to benefit myself but benefit others.”

Even though Havana Rose Liu is still new in the acting industry, she is undoubtedly talented in acting. Keep up the good work, Havana!
