WayV

WayV is a C-POP boy group formed by SM Entertainment. They consist of 6 members: Kun, Ten, WinWin, XiaoJun, Hendery and YangYang.

Career

Back in 2016, SM Entertainment planned to create a boy group called NCT with many sub-units operating in different cities.

WayV is one of the sub-units based in China. It is managed by Label V, SM Entertainment’s Chinese sub-label.

The agency announced the members of WayV in December 2018. They are Kun, Ten, WinWin, Lucas, XiaoJun, Hendery, and YangYang.

All of the members were part of a pre-debut training program called SM Rookies. Some of them had also participated in various activities with NCT, mainly in the NCT U and NCT 2018.

Before they were known as WayV, the group was first called NCT China. Later on, the name was changed to NCT Vision. But the official name of the group is WayV or 威神V.

These Chinese characters can be translated to Powerful Gods. WayV is the English spelling of their name. It also served as the acronym for We Are Your Vision.

WayV made their debut in January 2019 with the release of their digital single The Vision. For the title track, they used the Chinese version of NCT 127’s song Regular.

There are three tracks in the digital EP, in which all of them managed to get in the top ten of Billboard World Digital Songs.

Following the success of their first release, WayV went on to release several more EPs. Their second EP titled Take Over the Moon brought them massive commercial success.

The album charted at number 5 on the Gaon Album Chart. They also had their first performance in Korea on the MBC M’s Show Champion.

The group released their first studio album in June 2020. The album titled Awaken the World was first teased through a mobile game.

Fans were challenged to find teaser images of the game. Upon release, the album earned a number nine spot on the Billboard World Albums chart and number three on Gaon Album Chart.
